Natural, Homemade Skincare Solutions That Are Probably in Your Kitchen!
There is a growing awareness of the potential problems that chemical skincare products can cause. Many people are now actively choosing natural alternatives for their skincare needs. There are a number of great natural skincare products on the market today.
But did you know that there are common foods that can also be used as natural skincare solutions? You might even eat these foods regularly already! Let’s find out what some of them are, and how to use them.
1. Egg Whites
Eggs are abundant and cheap throughout South East Asia. You can buy them at the local market or supermarket and they’re more than just a great source of protein! Used on your face, egg whites can help tighten your skin and reduce blackheads. This is due to the astringent properties they contain.
Wash your face, and then separate the white from the egg yolk. Whisk it up with a fork until it goes frothy, and then apply to your face. Leave it for about 15 minutes, and then wash clean.
Don’t discard the egg yolk – they are great to use as a treatment for your hair!
2. Honey
There are many places in South East Asia where you can buy high quality honey, and specifically raw honey. It’s certainly more than just a healthy sweetener. Used on your skin it can help moisturize, heal, and reduce bacteria.
Wash your face, and then apply a teaspoon of raw honey all over. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse clean for a natural moisturizing treatment.
3. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is not only nutritious for cooking with, but it’s also a great choice to use on your skin. You can use a small amount and massage it in as a regular moisturizer. It also works well as a makeup remover. Apply it over your makeup, leave for five minutes, and then wash off with warm water. It should take most of the makeup with it.
You can also remove eye makeup by placing coconut oil on your make up pads, and gently wiping over your eyelids.
4. Baking Soda
Baking soda makes an amazing household cleaner, but it can also be used to wash your face. Make sure you patch test some on your arm first, as some people are sensitive to it. If you’re ready to try it as a face wash, mix a little with some water (play around with the consistency that works for you). Massage into your face and then rinse off with warm water. The baking soda can work like an exfoliator, by helping to remove dead skin cells.
5. Apple Cider Vinegar
With uses ranging from household cleaning to hair care, apple cider vinegar can also be used on your skin. Use it as a toner by mixing a tablespoon of it with two cups of water. Wipe it over your face with a clean cotton pad to help tighten your pores. It can also be used undiluted on your skin as a relief treatment for mosquito bites.
