Restlessness During Covid-19
Have you been getting enough fresh air, enough time with people, and enough new experiences to keep yourself sane and healthy?
We’ve all asked ourselves at one point or another during this unprecedented year plus of enduring Covid-19 life and restrictions, ‘Should I stay or should I go?’.
Getting cabin fever – the distressing claustrophobic irritability or restlessness experienced when a person, or group, is stuck at an isolated location or in confined quarters for an extended time – is a real thing that most of us have had to seriously face off with multiple times throughout the past year. Prolonged cabin fever can and does lead to anxiety and even depression. So it’s clear that it’s something we need to deal with. But how?
It’s not like it’s something that’s entirely up to us, right? We can just go out and be around others freely, go meet friends, or go traveling. We’ve all had restrictions imposed on us, our friends and family, and everyone else that we don’t know but who we find comfort in passing as we go about our business in a busy and crowded public place. One thing is for sure, and it’s that we don’t take those crowded and annoying experiences of the past for granted quite like we once did. What used to bother us is what we long to have back in some ways.
Although we can find more ways to connect with one another digitally, we might be able to take small trips (using extra precautions not to contract or spread viruses of course), and we might have found ways to meet up with friends without exposing ourselves to too much human contact, there still isn’t a clear answer for dealing with the extra longing we have for human touch and connection.
Let’s open it up.. How have you been able to get rid of the cabin fever? Have you found ways to get out into nature and interact with other people safely? Have you been able to travel? What are your tips for staying sane and healthy during this new normal environment? Please share, as it could make a big difference to someone. 🙂
