Consistency above Intensity
Consistent – marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity : free from variation or contradiction
Intense – existing in an extreme degree
When it comes to your mindset, fitness routine, what you eat and when, how you deal with the people in your life, and how you structure your overall behavior and lifestyle, consistency is generally going to impact your long-term progress and success more than how intensely you do anything at one specific point in time.
Take the example of someone who prepares very seriously for a short time for a specific sporting competition. They may be able to achieve their desired body and mind preparedness level for that event and they could succeed. However, the sacrifices and taxation on their body and mind might not be sustainable for the long term.
On the other hand, most of us are not extreme athletes and do not need to specifically regiment ourselves beyond a regular healthy diet and fitness routine.
If we can just simply find what works well for us, take the healthy actions every day – like walking for 30 minutes every lunch break or evening, eat nutritious foods and abstain from processed foods, and be in healthful relationships (with ourselves included) – we can achieve happiness and long-term health.
Let’s talk more about making consistency and intensity work for you. 🙂
