  • Discipline vs Motivation

Motivation, the temporary drive which wills us into action towards a specific goal, is undoubtedly a powerful tool. However, a more powerful skills is to be disciplined.

While motivation can get us up and moving very quickly when the mood strikes, discipline has the power to get us going even when we really don’t feel like it. The difference comes from the simple fact that discipline is a skill that must be practiced and grown organically, whereas motivation is something similar to a shot of adrenaline – giving you a sudden rush of ambition which while useful simply won’t last very long.

So, how can you create a habit of being disciplined and letting that carry you closer to your goals..? It’s not easy, but it’s very simple. Decide what it is you want, commit to pursue it with all of your might, and execute your plan. When you don’t feel like putting in the hard work that you know will help get you closer to your dream, that’s when you MUST take action more than any other time. Each time you force yourself into action, you develop that discipline muscle. Like any other muscle in the body, the more you train it and take care of it, the stronger it will be.

It might be a huge challenge to get yourself moving right now, but start practicing your new disciplined self, and pretty soon it will become a habit, which will eventually become your normal state. And when you start to realize just how easy it can be to do the right thing all the time you’ll realize that you were the only thing that ever stood in your way to begin with.

Still struggling with this? You’re not alone. Let’s talk.
