Today I’m inspired to share an idea about the benefits of our natural inclination and tendency to thrive in a group setting. We often call this community. We can also call this tribalism. After all, we are a tribal species. Biologically, we are designed to fare far better when we are with others than alone. From birth, it takes years to build up the ability both in physical and mental capacities before we’re able to safely separate from our mothers. Sure, unfortunately some mom’s don’t survive giving birth to their child, but thanks to science and loving extended family and friends (our tribe), we are somehow still able to survive even those horrific losses.

Despite some of us being introverts or extroverts, and anywhere in between, we cannot deny that at some level we are better off for the emotional and physical connections we share with others. So, what’s left is to figure out how to make the most out of the resources we have – out of those other people that come into our lives – or better yet, that we purposefully seek out and reel in to our circle.

If you’re not exposing yourself to new ideas, how will you get better?

If you don’t discuss problems with your peers, how will you solve them?

If you’re not helping others solve their problems, how can you call yourself good?

If you’re not being challenged, how can you become wise?

These questions float around and if we decide to take them seriously they just might lead us down the path of fulfillment and success – however we might define it.

One way to get in touch with what really matters to those around us – to receive and share ideas about how to tackle common problems, and finally to create meaningful connection useful for our wellbeing – is to bring together groups of people with whom we can collectively push towards deeper understanding, purpose, and action.

Do you have this kind of tribe? Are you part of something bigger than yourself? What will your Mastermind look like?
